Pleased to say that last night’s Merton Council meeting saw councillors back Lib Dem calls for the Bike Hire Scheme to be brought to Merton. This is great news, as increasing cycling could cut congestion, in turn improving local air quality – as fewer cars means less pollution.

The Council cabinet should now open negotiations about this with London Mayor, Boris Johnson – it’s a good opportunity for them to challenge Boris on how he’s going to make the scheme better. It’s also a good reason for the Council to start thinking what it could do to make cycling in Merton safer and easier.
