Street light success: Extra lights on Graham Rd-Hartfield Cres alley

by Wimbledon Town & Dundonald Lib Dems on 14 January, 2013

People always tell us how safe they feel in Wimbledon – and so we weren’t really surprised when they said it when we were going door-to-door with our recent 60 Second Survey.

That said, there were a few areas of concern – and one of them was how dark it was on the alley between Graham Road and Hartfield Crescent. In winter, it was particularly dingy with just the one light at one end.

It’s also something that people have been complaining about to Merton Council for years without any action being taken.

  • In August we started a new round of lobbying the Council to install extra lights on the alleyway.
  • In September we finally got them to agree to a site visit. After that they agreed to install additional lighting – although there would be a 10 week delay in obtaining the light fittings.
  • In December and after we’d hassled them a bit more, the Council confirmed that the new lights would be fitted between 17-21 December, which they were!

We think that the new lights are a definite improvement, but do let us know what you think and if you’ve any other comments

A definite improvement. Could similar lighting be installed in the alley between Abbott Avenue and Kingston Road, also a very dark alley?
