Significant Gas works: Kingston Road and Merton Hall Road area of Wimbledon Chase

by Dundonald Lib Dems on 10 July, 2021

On Wednesday we received the below from SGN:

“I’m writing to provide you with some information about our work to upgrade the local gas supply network in the Kingston Road and Merton Hall Road area of Wimbledon Chase. Our project involves the essential replacement of old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure we continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area. Our contractor Forefront Utilities will undertake this work on our behalf.

In consultation with the London Borough of Merton, we will start our project on Monday 12 July. Over the coming six months our engineers will be progressing through the following roads:
Avebury Road
Braeside Avenue
Burstow Road
Chatsworth Avenue
Cliveden Road
Dennis Park Crescent
Henfield Road
Kingston Road
Merton Hall Gardens
Merton Hall Road
Quintin Avenue
Rayleigh Road
Richmond Avenue
Rothesay Avenue
The Quadrant
Toynbee Road

We will be able to carry out majority of our work under a ‘give and take’ traffic management system. However, for everyone’s safety, we will need to close Henfield Road at Junction of Merton Hall Road from Monday 13 September, for approximately three weeks.

We will also need to close Avebury Road at junction of Merton Hall Road from Monday 27 September for approximately four weeks. Signed diversion will be in place for motorists and cyclists.

From Monday 25 October we will need to install temporary traffic lights around our work area in Kingston Road in front of Liberty House, for approximately six weeks.

Once the project starts our engineers are be happy to answer questions at any time during our project. Please remember to keep a safe distance when speaking to our team or passing our site.

We would like to apologise for the disruption our work may cause you and thank you in advance for your co-operation in enabling us to carry out the essential work required to replace the gas mains.

If you have any further questions, please do let me know.”
