Emma Hamilton plans rejected [updated]

by Wimbledon Town & Dundonald Lib Dems on 10 November, 2012

Controversial plans for flats to be built on the site of the former Emma Hamilton pub have been turned down by the Council’s planning application committee.

The Wimbledon Chase Residents Association had lobbied hard, and the scheme had been revised from the initial proposals for a 5 storey block of flats. Council officers had recommended that planning permission be given to the revised plans. Part of the reason the application was rejected was lack of affordable housing.

The residents association should be proud of their work and successes on this issue. They wish to continue a positive dialogue with the developer.

December Update: Following the rejection of its revised plans negotiated with the residents association, the developer is appealing it’s initial proposals for a 5 storey block of flats.

maybe its about time the developers & the council realised the heart was ripped out of the community when the Emma Hamilton closed & just by pumping more people into it (ie building flats) will not regenerate the depressed area.
The Emma Hamilton was the only place local residents had to meet & socialise & share their lives together.
The whole area of Wimbledon Chase looks terrible & feels terrible & its all down to the state of The Emma Hamilton!
    Bring back the Community!
