Hartfield Road resurfacing!

by Wimbledon Town & Dundonald Lib Dems on 17 July, 2024

We’ve supported local residents to get the Council to agree to resurfacing works over summer, which should help with noise and vibrations caused by the road’s concrete base.

Works starting 29 July and are expected to complete 6 September. Full details are below.

Cllr Fairclough has been liaising with TfL and bus operators about bus speeds and timetabling.

When we asked Council officers about the impact on parking and access to people’s properties we were told:

I can advise that, although through traffic will be put on diversion, the closure signage will state ‘Access Only’ so Hartfield Road residents will still be able to enter and park either on or off street, albeit that as the active 75m work zone moves along the street, starting at Graham Road and moving towards Sir Cyril Black Way, they will find that to reach their property they will need to gain access from Kingston Road rather than from Sir Cyril Black Way .

Kingston Road to Graham Road will remain open until the end stage of the works when a further letter will be sent to advise that it needs to be closed for a few days whilst the road is resurfaced down to Kingston Road”.

Thanks for all your work. Two points about Queens Road.
    1. New road surface great but what about the footpaths? These are in a dangerous state , carry much foot traffic between the Everyda Church and Ashvombe Road. Several of my elderly neighbours and I have suffered falls. One neighbour uses a wheelchair but cannot venture out on his own because of the state of the footpaths.
    2. 200 bus good ( except when on diversion) but we need an extra bus. 57, 131 or 219. Also countdown signs at Police Station and bottom of Wimbledon Hill Road at least.

Dear Mr Young, thank you for this. Cllr Paul Kohler MP has recently written to the Council about the state of the pavements on Queens Road.
With regards to countdown units, this seems to be something TfL are trying to cut back on – we’re constantly having to push for them to be replaced when they break
