Dorien Rd glass factory site application rejected

by Wimbledon Town & Dundonald Lib Dems on 4 January, 2012

Just before Christmas, Merton Council rejected a planning application to build a three storey block of flats on part of the old glass factory on Dorien Road.
The development was described as:
DEMOLITION OF EXISTING BUSINESS/LIGHT INDUSTRIAL BUILDING [B1(c) 151 SQUARE METRES AND ERECTION OF A NEW THREE STOREY BUILDING COMPRISING 9 SELF-CONTAINED FLATS [3 ONE BEDROOM AND 6 TWO BEDROOM]
Residents were concerned that the development would cause problems with on-street parking. The new flats were also tiny, and there was very limited outdoor space provided for the families they expected to live there. We were keen to help residents have their say on these issues.
Planning officers rejected the application on 23 December – their reasons can be seen here. We’re pleased to see that the officers criticised the development on grounds of design, character, size and space as well as the effect on parking.
